Atlassian Agile Lifecycle Mgmt Tool

Atlassian is a software company based in Sydney, Australia. They develop a suite of software programs primarily oriented toward the support of Agile software development. GSA has primarily invested in Atlassian Jira and Confluence. Jira is designed to help teams of all types manage work. Originally, Jira was designed as a bug and issue tracker. But today, Jira has evolved into a powerful work management tool for all kinds of use cases, from requirements and test case management to agile software development. Confluence enables teams to collaborate in a Wiki-like Web environment ideal for creating and sharing requirements documentation, files, illustrations, and more. The Atlassian suite of tools (including Jira, Confluence and others) is the standard, enterprise-wide Agile Lifecycle Management (ALM) tool for GSA FAS. COMET BPA holders and vendors are to use the GSA IT instance of the Jira and Confluence applications and Atlassian stack in alignment with FAS guidance.

Jira and Confluence help all types of teams manage their work. Agile coaches have worked with the GSA IT Jira Administration team to provide a Jira configuration for FAS projects that can scale across the enterprise. Through their use of Jira and Confluence, the FAS portfolios, business lines, and integrator offices operate more cohesively across enterprise modernization efforts with consistent collection of content and metrics. The Agile Lifecycle Management (ALM) tools, Jira and Confluence, support FAS Agile governance enabling and capturing the work of all cross-functional team members inclusive of product, development, and other shared services team members.

Jira

Jira is a powerful platform that combines issue collection and agile project management capabilities into a single application that aids in planning and organizing tasks, workflows, and reports for Agile teams. Jira projects provide insights to support decision-making and supply teams with historical references to inform future work, manage estimates, and make adjustments increasing delivery predictability.

Confluence

Confluence allows teams to store content related to large projects collaboratively. While Jira is more focused on tracking projects over time, Confluence serves as a wiki-based collaboration tool that keeps track of the essential documents associated with a project. These documents may include performance of work statements, system requirements, strategy documents, meeting notes, product documentation, and so forth. Its main features include content organization and permissions management. Confluence is an effective companion product to Jira by nature of its document storage capability that allows user stories from Jira to be tied back to specific requirements and business processes all in one place.

Please work with the FAS Jira Working Group, your OST Product Manager or the Agile Coaches to request, set up, and configure new Jira Projects and Confluence Spaces. Requests for Jira and/or Confluence accounts and access may be submitted through your project administrator, Confluence and Jira accounts can be requested through the Atlassian User Support Portal, or email gsa-jira.support@gsa.gov.
